The word was that we needed an 'easy' trail to get people back to earth after they climbed Apumoana. The Empire of Dirt built Te Poaka. Smooth as a baby's bottom, anybody can descend Te Poaka in relative comfort and safety, provided they know where their brakes are and how they function. Otherwise, there could be trouble. The mighty First Response team haul wounded soldiers out of Te Poaka on a regular basis due to a combination of speed-induced exuberance and the solidity of trees when you run into one.
Why Te Poaka? It means 'The Pig' - there were pig bones found during the build. While we are on that topic, here is some historic trivia: when the trees on Hot X Buns (only metres away from Te P most of the way down) were less than a metre high, one of the gang came across a squad of wild piglets and was chased down the trail by an angry sow. True story.
